Greetings Everyone! So this is it! My first blog post and launch of my new website! Well, technically, it is my second blog post, as I accidentally deleted the entire first one, lol! As if you needed any further proof, let me just start by saying that I have no idea what I am doing! But we are just going to give it a go and have some fun doing it, so bare with me and lets learn and laugh together!
So, what I love most about my hometown of Las Vegas, is that it is so much more than the "strip" and its famous tag line "What Happens In Vegas, Stays In Vegas". Oh sure, we have great night life and clubs and casinos here, but we also have some incredible outdoor life!! We have mountains and trails and lakes and some of the most beautiful desert you have ever seen! Red Rock Canyon, Mt. Charleston, Lake Mead & Laughlin River are just a few of our great local outdoor treasures! We really do have the best of both worlds here. And you know what else? All of our 7-11's and drugstores are open 24/7! Midnight snack attack? Uncontrollable Slurpee craving at 2 AM? In desperate need of hair color or a prescription after hours?? No problem, we got ya covered ;)
Today I would like to share one of my other favorite places to go on the weekends here in Vegas, the Springs Preserve! As the blog title suggests, it is truly a Jewel In the Desert! It is a great place to take the kids, visitors or just yourself when you need a break. There is quite a lot to see and do here : Museums, Botanical Gardens, Cultural Events and Exhibits, Historical Exhibits, Learning Events and Exhibits, a great restaurant and my favorite, the trails! Which is where I went this past Saturday. Unfortunately, a lot of the trails were closed so I didn't get any pictures of the cool historical remnants, but I did get some nice shots of the other trails. The cool thing about this place is that if you are a Nevadan, the trails and gardens are FREE! If you are planning to visit any museums or exhibits the entrance fee is $9.95.
The first thing I always notice upon entering the Springs Preserve is that it is filled with beautiful bird song! I am a die hard music lover, but when I hike I prefer the sounds of Mother Nature! I got to see a family of furry critters scurry across the trail. I saw a lizard attempt to cross the road, he changed his mind when he saw me coming, lol. And there were lots of birds and other flying things! Here are some of the pictures I took on a beautiful Summer Saturday!
After walking the trails in the morning, I wanted to see the Butterfly Habitat Exhibit. What a lovely experience that was! Beautiful butterflies fluttering all about and beautiful flowers, it was almost like being in some kind of magical fairyland! Then on the way out they have to check you for "hitchhikers", lol. Make sure you don't leave with any of the butterflies! I got a few pictures of the habitat and even a few butterflies! You can't imagine how difficult it is to get a good picture of a butterfly!
And after a good hike and a good show, one needs a good meal! The Divine Café at the Springs Preserve has good food, good service and a good view! Jeez, think I could fit one more Good in there?? lol. What I especially love about this café is that they always have vegan options on the menu! Oh and they have a nice beer selection, too.
And that ends our trip to the Jewel In the Desert, the Springs Preserve! It was a lovely day. Hope you enjoyed reading about other fun things to do in Las Vegas besides gamble! Until next time!
Love & Light,
